I chose the creative use of light because in my opinion light can change the whole vibe of a picture by making it more brighter and distinctive. Another reason why I chose light is because the source of light can provide things that wouldn't be there without it with things such as reflections, shadows and shading, this is crucial because it makes the photo more intriguing creating patterns and creating shapes that wouldn't be there without the light. The source of light is everywhere you go and it makes things more appealing and out of the ordinary.
Ray Metzker
As you can tell by these photos, Metzker liked experimenting with his mischievous and unique black and white photos. Metzker liked using different angles and objects to make his photos out of the ordinary. Another reason why I like Metzker's photos is because he uses different black and white effects to make certain things in the photo more appealing. For example the photo in the middle uses a certain affect which makes certain surfaces really light and makes other things such as people and shadows more appealing which in my opinion adds a different vibe to the photo making every single key thing stand out. Metzker uses different formal elements such as light, shadows and contrast, Metzker dine this by making the photo different with an effect, for example it made the contrast of the photo a little bit like a cartoon, the effect also made the shadows more appealing and it made the light come out more. The photo on the right shows a piece of cardboard on a road in between to buildings. The angle that Metzker took this photo from makes the cardboard look bigger and also because it's the only thing in focus it makes everything else less appealing . The effect that was used on this photo makes the buildings on each side darker, making the light appeal a lot more and makes it more unravelling like it's a long mysterious road where you can't see the end of it.
Florence Henri
Florence Henri was a photographer from new york and unfortunately she passed away in France where she lived. She left New York at the age of 2 after her mothers death, due to this she travelled and relocated in many different countries then settled down in France at the age of 27. In France Henri studied photography, she would always be experimenting with all different types of photography and taking different photos of things such as manipulations of mirrors, prisms and reflective objects. In 1928 and the late 193os Henri produced many different work that she was best known for including mirror compositions then she participated a film called Und Foto in 1929. As Henri was becoming more well known she opened up a successful studio in Paris promoting and showing everyone her unique photos impressing everyone and inspiring them. The reason I chose to write about Henri was because I was looking at his photos and they stand out to me because they're so unique and it played tricks on my mind on what the photo is. For example look at the first photo, personally I don't know what is exactly in the photo, it's almost like the balls going down the corner of the stairs by the way they're rotating and it look like they're going down something, even though i'll never know what is in the photo i think it makes it a better photo as it makes you think what can it be. Another photo that makes you think is the photo on the right, personally I looked at the photo like the two balls were peaking at each other behind the black object however Henri has just used a mirror to make that effect.
Abelardo Morel
Abelardo Morel is a photographer from Cuba but now he is based in Boston. Morel moved to America when he was 14 years old without speaking any English, Morel would work as a pharmacy deliverer which would earn him enough money to purchase a box brownie camera he would then go onto photographing his family's life. In 1977 Morel graduated art school and then carrying on at a art university Morel never liked the idea of normal photography and basic or what some people would call natural and normal photography, Morel was more interested in things such as photoshop and mixing up photos. Morel is famous for his camera obscura which is also known as a pinhole photo., this is where a image is projected on the wall and it's upside down. Personally I really like Morels photos because they're different, artistic and unique, my favorite photo of Morel's is the one on the left, this is because it feels like the door leads to the image displayed on the wall and it's like the entrance to there however I don't know if this is the message to the audience but that's what I first thought when I saw it and I really like it.
My Creative Use Of Light
In all honesty I have mixed feelings on how this photoshoot came out. This is because I planned out certain things that I thought would come out better and it didn't which I think is to do with using a phone and not a camera, the lighting and the facilities I have however I am happy with the ideas I had how some of the photos turned out by using things such as reflection and lighting.
